Is Stress Making You Diabetic?

If your a man you may be interested to know that some research from Sweden is linking being stressed with diabetes, although it does not seem to occur in women - (I guess men get all the stress putting up with them).

But getting back to seriousness, the stress was measured on 3 factors - anxiety, depression and also lack of sleep.

So could this also be connected to the connection between stress and weight gain?

You see, when we were cavemen (or women), we needed the fight or flight reaction within our bodies to keep us alive, you know the score dinosaur comes around the corner adrenaline kicks in, action taken and adrenaline used up - that’s how our bodies are meant to function.

Unfortunately, times have changed and there are no dinosaurs any more (there wasn’t any when we were cavemen either I was just wanting to be dramatic) - but our bodies still function the same and because of the high pressure lifestyles we have now we pump out loads of adrenaline into our bodies.

You see, unless you are in the Mafia your boss isn’t really going to kill you if you don’t get that task done or you have made a mistake or whatever, but the mind can’t switch off the anxiety you feel from that and boom - more chemicals swirling around in your body, except this time they have nowhere to go because you aren’t going to fight and you aren’t going to run.

Instead you are just being  in that moment and  along comes a chemical called cortisol  which is  also released by your body during fight or flight and mops up the fat released by the adrenalin  that was going to be used for energy, and politely dumps it  all in the abdomen,  and from there belly fat is strongly linked with diabetes.

Next time we’ll look at ways to try and control and deal with this stress
